Two-storey building collapses in Lagos,Leaves One Injured, Five Saved

Fear and confusion swept through the Alimosho area of Lagos on Wednesday evening as a two-storey building collapsed at 4 Modupeola Street, Mangoro Bus Stop. The tragic incident, which happened around 6:00 p.m., left one man badly injured while five others narrowly escaped death. Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with residents screaming for help as dust and debris filled the air.
Rescue workers raced against time to save a 44-year-old man who was trapped beneath the rubble. He was eventually pulled out alive, though with multiple fractures and bruises, before being rushed by LASAMBUS officials to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), where doctors confirmed him stable. The five other victims were immediately taken to a nearby private hospital for urgent treatment, according to Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso.
Videos circulating online show Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) teams digging through mangled concrete in tense rescue efforts. While the cause of the collapse remains unknown, the latest incident deepens growing concerns over the spate of building failures in the state. Just months ago, similar tragedies in Ikorodu and Isale Eko claimed lives and reignited public outcry over structural safety in Lagos.
