‘N180m stolen from my NGO account’ – VeryDarkMan cries out
Controversial activist Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has alleged that over N180 million was stolen from his NGO’s account after it was hacked. The activist, known for his outspoken personality, made the revelation in a video shared on Instagram, sparking widespread reactions online.
Otse’s NGO, the Martins Vincent Osei Initiative, was launched in October and garnered swift support, raising over N35 million in donations within hours. Notably, music producer Don Jazzy contributed a staggering N100 million to the cause. However, the activist revealed that a cyber breach led to N160 million being diverted, leaving only N20 million in the account.
“Honestly, I’ve not been myself for the past few days,” Otse admitted. “Someone hacked into the NGO’s website, but we’ve tracked the suspect, and one arrest has been made. The account is now on PND (Post No Debit), and we’re heading to Jos to recover the stolen funds.” He also stated that the NGO’s app had been temporarily shut down to prevent further security lapses.
The revelation has ignited discussions about cybersecurity vulnerabilities in nonprofit organizations. Supporters have expressed concern, urging the activist to remain resilient, while critics have called for increased transparency and improved digital safeguards. Otse promised to keep the public updated as investigations progress.
