Natasha: Akpabio must not be sacrificed – Afenifere

Pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, has cautioned against allowing the unproven allegations made by Senator Natasha Akpoti to derail Senate President Godswill Akpabio’s leadership. In a statement issued on Monday by its Organising Secretary, Kole Omololu, the group described Akpabio as a committed patriot and called for a thorough investigation rather than a rush to judgment.
Afenifere linked the allegations to a disciplinary action taken against Senator Akpoti, suggesting that political motives may be at play. The group insisted that the matter should be handled by the Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges to ensure fairness and due process, rather than allowing it to become a tool for political distraction.
Highlighting Akpabio’s contributions, Afenifere credited him for fostering political stability and executive-legislative cooperation in the National Assembly. The group noted that under his leadership, Nigeria has witnessed one of the rare periods of governance harmony, with strong synergy between the Senate and the Presidency.
As political tensions mount, Afenifere’s position signals a strong defense of Akpabio’s leadership, urging lawmakers to prioritize institutional integrity over sensationalism. The coming days will determine whether the Senate heeds this call for caution and procedural fairness.
