Goods worth millions destroyed by fire at Ibadan spare parts market

In the early hours of Saturday, a raging fire gutted the popular Araromi Spare Parts Market at Agodi-Gate, Ibadan, Oyo State, destroying properties worth millions of naira. The inferno, which started around 2 a.m., has left traders devastated as firefighters work tirelessly to bring the blaze under control.

The cause of the fire remains unclear as investigations are ongoing. Witnesses reported hearing loud crackling sounds as the flames rapidly spread through the densely packed market, consuming shops and warehouses. The extent of the damage is yet to be fully assessed, but early estimates suggest significant losses for traders who rely on the market for their livelihoods.

This tragedy follows closely on the heels of another fire incident in Ibadan on Friday evening, where a husband, his wife, and their grandson tragically lost their lives in a blaze that engulfed a storey-building in the Ori-Eru area of Idikan. The two incidents have sparked widespread concern over fire safety and emergency response readiness in the city.

The General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Yemi Akinyinka, confirmed that his team responded swiftly to distress calls but noted the challenges of navigating congested areas to combat the flames effectively. Residents and authorities are now calling for intensified fire prevention efforts to avert future disasters.
