Corps member slumps, dies in Kebbi orientation camp

A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member has tragically passed away after collapsing at the Dakin Gari Orientation Camp in Kebbi State. The corps member, whose identity has not been disclosed, reportedly slumped during the camp activities and was immediately rushed to the camp clinic for medical attention. Despite efforts to resuscitate her, she was transferred to the Federal Teaching Hospital in Birnin-Kebbi, where she was confirmed dead by doctors.

According to a source, the young woman’s death occurred as doctors made attempts to revive her, but unfortunately, they were unsuccessful. The news of her sudden passing has left fellow corps members and camp officials in deep shock and mourning.

Muhammad Fingila, the Kebbi State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, confirmed the tragic incident, calling it a heartbreaking loss. He also shared that the state government had made necessary arrangements to return her remains to her home state of Adamawa.

The untimely death has raised concerns about the health and safety measures in place at NYSC orientation camps. It has left many wondering about the potential risks faced by young Nigerians undergoing the mandatory national service.
