Father and native doctor arrested by Enugu Police over son’s death

A chilling incident in Enugu State has left the community in shock after a young man tragically died during a failed ritual intended for fortification. Reports indicate that 26-year-old Chikwado Celestine Eze was buried alive in a coffin during a ceremony led by a native doctor, Enuwa Odugu, at the request of his father, Uwakwe Eze.
The ritual, which took place under the guise of traditional protection, turned deadly as Chikwado lost his life just an hour after being buried. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he was pronounced dead upon arrival, and his body has since been moved to the mortuary for an autopsy.
Enugu State Police spokesperson, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed that both the native doctor and the father have been arrested for conspiracy and murder. Ndukwe stated, “The native doctor confessed to prior similar rituals, claiming the death resulted from the victim’s failure to adhere to specific rules.”
This tragic case sheds light on the dangers of harmful traditional practices and has raised concerns in the community. Meanwhile, the police are actively investigating the incident and preparing to bring the suspects to court.
In a related case, the police have also arrested two men, Okoro Chukwuebuka Kingsley, 24, and Ogbonna Samuel Chiedozie, 18, for the murder of 52-year-old Patience Nkem Charles, stemming from a personal grudge. The suspects confessed to strangling her in her home, and they have since been remanded in custody.
These disturbing events serve as a reminder of the urgent need for awareness around the risks associated with such practices and the impact of personal grievances leading to violence.
