Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, has made a startling revelation, disclosing that a significant portion of illicit weapons circulating in the country originally belonged to the Federal Government. Ribadu shared this during an arms destruction exercise by the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW) on Thursday at the Muhammadu Buhari Cantonment in Abuja.

According to the NSA, corrupt elements within Nigeria’s security agencies facilitated the transfer of these arms into the hands of non-state actors, including terrorists and bandits. He condemned the involvement of security personnel in this illegal trade, which has fueled violence and insecurity across the country.

Ribadu assured that the government is determined to crack down on these corrupt practices and will take every necessary step to restore peace and security nationwide.
