Billionaire businessman Dr. Adedeji Adeleke, father of Nigerian music sensation Davido, has revealed that his ventures contribute 15% of Nigeria’s electricity supply. Speaking at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church’s General Conference Annual Council 2024, Adeleke disclosed that he is currently finalizing a 1,250-megawatt thermal power plant, which is projected to become the largest in the country upon its completion in January.

Adeleke shared the challenges he faced in bringing the ambitious project to life, including opposition from unnamed government officials. According to him, environmental permit issues almost stalled the construction of the $2 billion plant, and a particular official had bluntly stated the project would never be realized. However, Adeleke, undeterred, leaned on his faith, believing that the final decision rested with God and not man.

Despite the initial setbacks, Adeleke credited divine intervention for the project’s near-completion. His perseverance, combined with the support of Chinese engineering partners and financial backing from Afrexim Bank of China, kept the dream alive. The billionaire noted that, in the end, it was prayer that turned the tide, as the Minister of Power ultimately granted the necessary approval.

Once operational, the plant is expected to significantly bolster Nigeria’s power infrastructure. Adeleke’s vision, which has already contributed substantially to the nation’s electricity supply, is a testament to his business acumen and deep faith, paving the way for future developments in the energy sector.
