The Kwara State Police Command has dismissed three officers involved in the death of Qoyum Abdulyekeen Ishola, a student of Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin. The officers, Inspector Abiodun Kayode, Inspector James Samuel, and Sergeant Oni Philip, were found guilty of abandoning their duty post, engaging in corrupt practices, and using excessive force during a fuel price hike protest on September 4, 2024.

The case, which drew widespread condemnation, was escalated to Abuja under the supervision of Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun. In a statement by DSP Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, the command confirmed that the officers were dismissed effective October 4, 2024, and will face charges soon.

“This decisive action underscores the IGP’s commitment to accountability and integrity within the force,” the statement read, adding that any ethical breach, especially those resulting in loss of life, will be met with stern consequences.

The command extended condolences to the family of the deceased, vowing to support them through this difficult time.
