A devastating early morning collision in Oke-Elesin, Amuloko, Oyo State, has claimed the lives of nine individuals, including a primary school student and her mother, while leaving several others critically injured. The incident occurred on Monday when two trucks, laden with soda drinks and tiles, collided with two tricycles, known locally as “Keke Marwa.”

Eyewitnesses reported that one of the trucks lost control while descending the steep Oke-Elesin hill, crashing into the tricycles and other vehicles. The impact was catastrophic, with six victims pronounced dead at the scene, while the injured were swiftly transported to nearby hospitals for urgent medical care.

“It was a horrifying scene,” an eyewitness recounted. “The truck experienced brake failure while going downhill, plowing into the tricycle. Another truck, following closely behind, attempted to dodge the wreckage and ended up crushing another Keke Marwa.”

Dr. Raji Wale, Managing Director of Amuloko City Hospital, confirmed that four patients were admitted following the accident. “Six victims were brought in with various injuries, and some were directed to other hospitals. We managed to stabilize two outpatients who have since been discharged, while two children, including a boy whose mother perished in the accident, remain under our care.”

Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) Sector Commander, Mrs. Rosemary Alo, acknowledged the tragedy and stated that official details would be released after her officers complete their field assessments.

As emergency crews worked to manage the aftermath, normalcy returned to the area, with security personnel from various agencies, including Operation Burst and local vigilantes, ensuring smooth traffic flow amidst the chaos.
