Nigerians may end up buying petrol N5,000 per litre –NLC
The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has warned that petrol prices could rise to an unbelievable N5,000 per litre if urgent steps are not taken to fix the fuel crisis. The NLC expressed serious concerns over the state of the petroleum sector, blaming poor management, a weak naira, and unchecked market conditions for the looming threat.
NLC spokesman, Benson Upah, highlighted the danger of rising prices, saying, “If nothing changes, Nigerians might soon be paying N5,000 per litre for petrol. This would make transportation, food, and other essentials unaffordable for most people.” He urged the government to step in quickly to prevent this nightmare scenario and protect citizens from unbearable costs.
The NLC called for immediate action, including repairing local refineries, boosting fuel production, and regulating prices to stop exploitation by marketers. Without these changes, Nigeria’s heavy dependence on imported fuel could push petrol prices to levels that would worsen the struggles of everyday Nigerians.
This warning has sparked anxiety across the country, as many fear the devastating impact of such a price hike. The NLC’s message is clear: the government must act fast to prevent fuel prices from spiraling out of control and plunging the nation into deeper economic trouble.
