Yahoo Boy gets 2yrs in jail for faking Flavour N’abania, scam US lady

A Federal High Court in Lagos has sentenced Courage Ipaka to two years in prison for impersonating popular Nigerian musician Flavour N’abania and defrauding a U.S. citizen, Mrs. Yvelte Thompson, of $53,000. Ipaka, who posed as the celebrity singer, convinced Thompson to pay him for fake shows in the U.S., funneling the funds through Bitcoin wallets.
Justice Dehinde Dipeolu handed down the sentence after Ipaka pleaded guilty to charges brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). EFCC’s investigator, Azibagiri Ekpar, revealed that Ipaka, based in Benin City, Edo State, converted the funds into Naira through his Access Bank account.
The court also ordered the forfeiture of N7.9 million recovered from the scam to the victim, alongside an option of a N2 million fine. The case underscores the growing menace of online fraudsters exploiting the identities of public figures to deceive unsuspecting victims worldwide.
