We’ll export our petrol if you don’t patronise us – Dangote Refinery warns NNPCL, marketers
The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has issued a stern warning that it will export its petroleum products to other countries if the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and local oil marketers fail to purchase from the newly operational refinery. This revelation was made by Devakumar Edwin, Vice President of Oil and Gas at Dangote Industries Limited, during a live broadcast on the Brekete Family Show.
This comes on the heels of an announcement by Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Refinery, confirming the rollout of Premium Motor Spirit (Petrol) from the 650,000 barrels per day Lagos-based refinery. Dangote stated that the petrol could hit the Nigerian market within 48 hours, pending decisions by NNPCL.
Edwin highlighted that the refinery has been actively exporting aviation fuel, kerosene, and diesel due to local trade barriers. “We have started producing PMS since yesterday (Sunday), but if NNPCL and traders refuse to lift our products, we will continue exporting just like we do with other fuels,” Edwin warned.
This development underscores rising tensions as the country battles fuel shortages and soaring prices, leaving many Nigerians wondering if the nation’s oil sector can overcome these distribution challenges or if Dangote’s fuel will benefit foreign markets instead.
