Nigerians express worry over increase in ritual killings
Nigerians are growing increasingly alarmed by the rising wave of ritual killings that have gripped the nation. With the 2023 general elections just around the corner, the country has witnessed a disturbing surge in these heinous acts, which many attribute to politicians desperate to secure power at any cost.
Investigations have uncovered a chilling trend where ritual killers have expanded their operations beyond kidnappings, now targeting hospitals to steal newborn babies. Shockingly, some nurses are allegedly colluding with these criminals, convincing grieving mothers that their healthy babies were stillborn. The stolen infants are then handed over to politicians and others involved in this dark trade.
In a horrifying recent case, Awesu Mojisola Morufat, a graduate of the Kwara State College of Health Technology, was brutally murdered for ritual purposes just days before her convocation. The prime suspect, Promise Ogunse, the son of a self-proclaimed prophet, lured her to a hotel where he allegedly killed her before dumping her body. This incident is part of a broader pattern of ritual killings across Nigeria, with clerics, traditional rulers, and even close family members implicated in the gruesome crimes.
Religious leaders and security experts are calling for urgent action to combat this growing menace. They argue that Nigeria’s legal system is too lenient, allowing many ritual killers to escape justice. The public is also being urged to remain vigilant, as ritual killings continue to spread like a plague across the country, threatening the very fabric of society.
