woman and granddaughter crushed to death in Ogun truck crash

In a heartbreaking incident on Friday, a woman and her granddaughter lost their lives after being crushed by an Iveco truck in the Papalanto area of Ewekoro local government, Ogun State. The truck, with registration number KJA 166 XJ, reportedly overtook a tricycle, TRE 627 VP, in which the victims were passengers, leading to the fatal accident.
The spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the tragic event, attributing it to dangerous driving by the truck driver, who fled the scene before authorities could apprehend him.
According to eyewitnesses, the truck, in a reckless attempt to overtake the tricycle on the Abeokuta-bound road, dragged the smaller vehicle along before it overturned and was crushed beneath the truck’s wheels. The grandmother and her granddaughter, the only passengers in the tricycle, were killed instantly.
Akinbiyi urged motorists to steer clear of dangerous and reckless driving, highlighting the devastating consequences it can have. The bodies of the deceased were handed over to their grieving relatives, while the injured tricycle driver was rushed to a hospital by a good Samaritan.
