President Bola Tinubu made an early morning return to Abuja on Friday, August 23, 2024, after a brief working visit to France. Touching down at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at around 2:25 am, the president is set to kick off a significant day in Nigeria’s judicial history.

Later today, President Tinubu will oversee the swearing-in of the new Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) at the State House Council Chambers. This ceremony will mark the official appointment of Justice Kudirat Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun as the new CJN, following the retirement of Justice Olukayode Ariwoola. The National Judicial Council (NJC) had recommended Justice Kekere-Ekun for the role during its 106th meeting on August 15.

President Tinubu’s return from France, where he spent the last few days on official duties, underscores the importance of today’s event. The swearing-in ceremony will solidify Justice Kekere-Ekun’s position at the helm of Nigeria’s judiciary.

Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, confirmed in a statement on Thursday that the swearing-in would proceed as planned, marking a new chapter for the nation’s judicial system.
