Tragedy struck in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Thursday night as a fatal accident claimed the lives of four people and left two others with severe injuries. The horrific incident occurred around 9 p.m. at the Enu-Gada area of Lafenwa, Abeokuta North Local Government, when a granite-laden Mack truck with Lagos registration number AAA 86 XX experienced a catastrophic brake failure.

The out-of-control truck, descending the Totoro slope, crashed into a Honda CRV, marked Lagos EKY 857 GU, and two commercial motorcycles with Ogun registration numbers DE 968 VC and AAB 387 VP. The devastating impact instantly claimed the lives of two motorcyclists and their pillion passengers, while the Honda CRV driver and a pedestrian sustained life-threatening injuries.

Babatunde Akinbiyi, Public Relations Officer of the state’s Traffic Compliance and Enforcement agency (TRACE), confirmed the accident and stated that the injured victims were promptly rescued and rushed to a nearby hospital by TRACE operatives. The deceased were taken to the morgue. Akinbiyi also noted that initial reports suggested six fatalities, but the quick intervention of first responders and concerned citizens helped revive the Honda CRV driver and the pedestrian.

In a chilling twist, the driver of the Mack truck and his motor boy vanished from the scene before authorities could apprehend them, leaving behind a trail of destruction and unanswered questions.
