Gunmen kidnap over 20 Nigerian Medical, students in Benue

In a chilling incident, more than 20 medical and dental students, along with a House Officer, were kidnapped by gunmen in Benue State. The students, from the University of Maiduguri and the University of Jos, were en route to the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students (FECAMDS) annual convention in Enugu when their journey took a tragic detour.
The ambush occurred around 5:30 p.m. near Otukpo, a region known for its growing security concerns. The students were traveling together in what was supposed to be a routine trip for the convention. Unfortunately, they were intercepted by heavily armed men who took them hostage, plunging their families and communities into distress.
SP Catherine Anene, the spokesperson for the Benue State Police Command, confirmed the abduction, stating that the police received the report between 5:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. She assured the public that an investigation is in full swing, as the authorities work to track down the perpetrators and secure the safe release of the abducted students and medical officer.
This incident has sent shockwaves throughout the country, raising urgent questions about the security of students and the ongoing threat of kidnappings in the region.
