ABIA— The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Abia State has confirmed the tragic loss of eleven lives in a devastating road accident on Wednesday at Arongwa village, near the Arab Contractors Construction site along the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway. The crash, which also left eight others seriously injured, is the second major accident in the area within three days.

The fatal collision involved a white Nissan Caravan commercial bus, carrying 19 passengers, and a HOWO commercial truck. The bus, en route to Enugu, rammed into the truck at high speed, resulting in the immediate death of nine passengers on the spot, with two more succumbing to their injuries later in the hospital.

FRSC personnel from Aba swiftly arrived at the scene within minutes, conducting rescue operations and transporting the injured to nearby hospitals. Despite their efforts, the toll of the tragedy continued to rise, with the total number of deceased now standing at eleven.

Preliminary investigations by the FRSC point to excessive speed as the likely cause of the accident, though further details are expected as crash investigators continue their work. This heartbreaking incident comes just days after another crash in the region claimed multiple lives, underscoring the urgent need for increased road safety measures.
