Ogun ex-Deputy Speaker, Tokunbo Oshin is dead

The political landscape of Ogun State is in mourning following the unexpected death of Dr. Tokunbo Oshin, former Deputy Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly. Dr. Oshin, aged 66, passed away on Saturday night at a private hospital in Sagamu after a brief illness.

Ademola Balogun, Ogun State Commissioner for Community Development and Cooperatives, confirmed the tragic news, expressing deep sorrow over the loss of his fellow Ijebu Igbo native. “Hon Oshin’s death is a big loss to our great party, the All Progressives Congress, and Ijebu Igbo town. May his soul rest in peace,” Balogun stated.

The former State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Engr. Bayo Dayo, also shared his grief. “It is very true that the distinguished lawmaker is dead, and I feel so sad about this unfortunate incident. We have been together for more than 20 years, and we are going to miss him very much. He was a true friend, and I wish the family and children well. May the Lord give them the fortitude to bear the great loss.”

Dr. Oshin served as Deputy Speaker from 2003 to 2007 and as a member representing the Ijebu North State constituency 1 from 2007 to 2011. In addition to his political career, he ventured into business as a small-scale petroleum products marketer with his company, Zipest Ventures Limited, which owns several filling stations in Ijebu-Ode, Ijebu-Igbo, Ago Iwoye, and Ibadan.

He also held significant positions, including representing the South West on the Board of the Small & Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), where he occasionally served as Board Chairman between 2018 and 2022. Dr. Oshin was an alumnus of Mayflower School, Ikenne, and Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye.

Until his passing, he was a Non-Executive Director of Gateway Mortgage Bank Limited, leaving behind a legacy of service and dedication to his community. The people of Ogun State and beyond mourn the loss of a distinguished leader and friend.
