Protests ignite in Abuja over Ndume’s demotion

Amid mounting anti-government protests, supporters of former Senate Chief Whip Mohammed Ali Ndume took to the streets of Abuja, demanding his reinstatement. The protesters, operating under the Southern Borno Development Association, rallied from Unity Fountain, claiming Ndume was unfairly removed for highlighting the struggles of Nigerians to President Bola Tinubu.

Defying the rain, the demonstrators voiced their support for Ndume. Mohammed Ibrahim Biu, leader of the association, stated, “We are here to register our displeasure over the Senate’s action against Senator Ali Ndume. He was removed for merely echoing the concerns of many Nigerians.”

Biu emphasized that Ndume’s comments were not unprecedented and praised President Tinubu for already acting on some of Ndume’s advice, such as the recent approval of the new minimum wage bill. “We believe President Tinubu, being a listening leader, has started implementing some of the advice given by Senator Ndume,” Biu added.

Appealing to the Senate President, Biu described Ndume as a “consistent and forthright leader” who has always championed the cause of his constituents and the downtrodden. The protesters called on the Senate to reconsider its decision and reinstate Ndume.
