In a bold move to curb night accidents and attacks on tanker drivers, the leadership of the Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) branch of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has announced a new directive to stop tanker movements after 6pm.

Newly elected PTD National Chairman, Augustine Egbon, revealed this agenda at a press conference, emphasizing the focus on the safety and welfare of tanker drivers. Egbon, elected on July 3, alongside 15 other executives during a court-ordered Special Delegates Conference, vowed to enforce strict adherence to the 6pm halt to protect drivers from night-time hazards and criminal attacks.

Speaking on the initiative, Egbon stated, “From 6pm, all tanker drivers must find a safe place to park until morning. This measure is crucial to prevent night accidents and deter hoodlum attacks, including truck hijackings.”

NUPENG President, Prince Williams Akporeha, supported the new directive, urging unity and dedication among the newly elected officers. “We are one family under NUPENG, and this move is essential for the safety of our members and the integrity of our operations,” Akporeha said.

The announcement follows a tumultuous election period and court rulings, with the PTD now looking forward to a more unified and secure future for its drivers and operations.
