Carelessness, negligence behind Nollywood stars’ incessant deaths – Mama G
Veteran Nollywood actress Patience Ozokwor, affectionately known as Mama G, has shed light on the alarming frequency of deaths among Nollywood actors, attributing it to a lack of health awareness and negligence. Speaking in Lagos this week, the beloved actress emphasized that many actors prioritize their careers over their health, leading to tragic consequences.
Mama G’s comments come on the heels of her emotional appearance at the funeral of fellow actor John Okafor, popularly known as Mr. Ibu, held in Enugu State late last month. Recalling the poignant moment, she explained, “When I called him by the name I used to, and he didn’t respond, it hit me that he was truly gone forever. That realization broke me.”
Ozokwor highlighted a disturbing trend among her colleagues, stating, “Some actors are so careless that instead of seeking proper medical attention when ill, they opt for over-the-counter pain relievers. This negligence is costing lives. We’re so focused on entertaining others that we neglect our own well-being.”
In a heartfelt plea, Mama G urged her colleagues to prioritize regular medical check-ups and adopt healthier lifestyles. She shared a transformative personal experience from 2016 when she felt called by God to become an evangelist. “It was a divine encounter that changed my life. I realized the importance of listening to my body and taking care of my health. It’s a message I hope others will take to heart,” she said.
Her call to action resonates deeply within the Nollywood community, as the industry mourns the loss of beloved actors and grapples with the need for greater health consciousness.
