Kano govt orders demolition of Ado-Bayero’s palace

The Kano State Government has ordered the demolition of the Nasarawa GRA mini palace of the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado-Bayero. This decision comes just hours after a Federal High Court ruling on the Kano Emirate Council Repeal Law 2024, which upheld the law but nullified subsequent actions by Governor Abba Yusuf.

State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Haruna Dederi, announced the demolition, citing the need for “general reconstruction and renovation of the property, including the demolishing and reconstruction of the dilapidated wall fence with immediate effect.” Dederi also confirmed that the Commissioner of Police has been directed to remove Ado-Bayero from the palace.

The ruling has sparked a significant stir in Kano, highlighting the ongoing tensions and power struggles within the state’s traditional and political spheres.
