Former Vice Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Yusuf Baba-Ahmed, has strongly countered Nobel Laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka’s critique of LP’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi. Baba-Ahmed asserted that he could easily say things that would “destroy” Soyinka but chose not to stoop to that level.

Soyinka recently criticized Obi, claiming his inability to control supporters who attack those with differing views online showed he was unfit to lead Nigeria. In response, Baba-Ahmed, speaking on Arise Television, labeled Soyinka’s comments as distractions and defended Obi’s leadership qualities.

“The learned elder statesman, Prof. Wole Soyinka, is scared of the positive change Peter Obi could bring to Nigeria,” Baba-Ahmed said. “Intellect doesn’t grant anyone the right to insult others.”

Baba-Ahmed highlighted past instances where Soyinka insulted public figures, suggesting the Nobel Laureate needs to maintain his dignity instead of targeting Obi and his supporters. He urged the public to ignore such distractions and focus on more pressing issues.
