A devastating incident in the FESTAC area of Lagos State has left two women dead after being struck by lightning during a rainstorm. The tragic event was confirmed by the state police spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, in a post on his X handle, @benHundeyin, on Saturday.

The lightning strike occurred on Friday during a heavy downpour. SP Hundeyin detailed the incident, saying, “Somewhere on First Avenue, FESTAC, two women remained indoors during the downpour yesterday. Lightning struck, electrocuting them instantly and causing a fire outbreak.”

The victims were reportedly living in a shanty constructed under high-voltage wires, a situation that likely contributed to the severity of the incident. The lightning not only electrocuted the women but also ignited a fire, compounding the tragedy.

SP Hundeyin expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and offered prayers for their souls to rest in peace. This incident highlights the dangers of living in makeshift structures, especially under hazardous conditions such as high-voltage power lines.
