Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has called for unity between Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara and his predecessor, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to ensure the stability and prosperity of Rivers State.

Speaking as the special guest at the inauguration of the Trans-Kalabari Road Project on Monday, Jonathan highlighted the critical importance of seamless transitions of power for the welfare of the citizens.

“Transition in Nigeria is becoming a problem,” Jonathan stated, expressing concern over the growing political tensions in Rivers State. He emphasized that while national transitions have their challenges, they are typically managed better than at the state level. “Outgoing governors and incoming governors must work together for the collective interest of the citizens.”

Jonathan underscored the potential repercussions of instability in Rivers State, the heart of the Niger Delta. “If Rivers State is destabilized, the whole Niger Delta will be destabilized. Leaders must embrace the principle of give and take,” he urged.

The former President praised the economic and security benefits of the Trans-Kalabari Road Project, noting its significance for regional development and safety. “When you make major roads across riverine areas, you solve numerous problems,” he remarked.

Commending Governor Fubara’s vision and commitment, Jonathan called on the people of Rivers State to support their governor. “He has shown within this short period that he is focused and committed to moving Rivers State to a higher level.”

Jonathan’s plea for cooperation comes at a crucial time, aiming to bridge political divides and foster a collaborative effort for the state’s progress. His remarks serve as a powerful reminder of the need for unity and shared purpose in governance.
