FG urged to revitalise power sector

In a bold move to tackle Nigeria’s ongoing energy crisis, Osita Okechukwu, a founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has called for the federal government to nationalise and recapitalise the electricity sector. Describing the current privatisation efforts as a “disaster,” Okechukwu highlights the surge in energy prices, widespread job losses, and factory closures as symptoms of the sector’s failure.
Okechukwu proposes a transformative $30 billion investment aimed at generating 30,000 megawatts of power within the next decade, inspired by post-World War II Britain’s successful nationalisation strategy. “We are in an economic crisis akin to the UK’s after WWII. Their Labour Party nationalised key industries and revitalised their economy. Why can’t we do the same?” he asserted.
This ambitious plan seeks to employ credible professionals to oversee the project, ensuring transparency and efficiency. “The loan will pay for itself,” Okechukwu assured, “if we have the right team to implement this grand national project.”
