In a bold move to enforce pedestrian safety, Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (KAI) arrested 127 people on Monday for ignoring pedestrian bridges and crossing highways illegally.

Despite government directives, many Lagos residents continue to risk their lives by crossing highways instead of using the provided pedestrian bridges, particularly at night, citing concerns over bridge security.

Lagos Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, has been vocal about the crackdown, warning that offenders will face prosecution. In a tweet on Monday, Wahab announced the results of a recent sting operation targeting these violations.

The operation netted 26 suspects accused of terrorizing pedestrians on the Oshodi bridge. Additionally, authorities apprehended two miscreants, 31 street traders, and 68 individuals for bypassing the pedestrian bridges during a morning sweep across the city.

This decisive action underscores Lagos State’s commitment to enhancing public safety and maintaining order on its roads. The arrests aim to curb the dangerous trend of highway crossings and ensure compliance with pedestrian bridge usage.
