Watch how Police Arrest Portable Over Failure To Pay G-Wagon Debt
Habeeb Okikiola, the controversial hip hop artist popularly known as Portable, was arrested on Tuesday evening by detectives from the Lagos State Police Command over an alleged unpaid vehicle cost.
The incident unfolded at the singer’s residence where he initially resisted arrest, sources revealed. However, Portable was eventually taken into custody after a tense standoff. Eyewitnesses reported that the star, known for his brash persona, turned remorseful, pleading with the officers to consider his upcoming international show.
Police Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the arrest, stating that Portable remains at the command headquarters due to his inability to provide a reliable surety for bail. “He will be released as soon as he provides a reliable surety,” Hundeyin assured.
The arrest followed a petition from an unnamed auto dealer who claimed that Portable had only paid N13 million out of the agreed N27 million for a luxury vehicle. The singer allegedly stopped payments after the initial installment, despite multiple interventions.
One police source disclosed, “Initially, he refused to pay anything but after intervention, he paid N13 million and stopped further payment.”
Another source close to the investigation added, “Portable was still arrogant to the petitioner, bragging that he was only respecting the policemen, not the petitioner.”
The arrest has sparked a flurry of reactions on social media, with fans expressing both support and criticism for the embattled artist. As the situation develops, it remains to be seen how this incident will impact Portable’s career and his planned international engagements.
