Emotional Farewell: Jnr Pope Laid to Rest Amidst Tears in Enugu
Uwala Abaka, Ukehe, Igboetiti Local Government Area of Enugu State was shrouded in sorrow on Friday as the town bid a final farewell to the beloved actor John Odonwodo, widely known as Junior Pope. The emotional ceremony saw family, friends, and fans gather to honor the life of the 43-year-old star.
The day began with a poignant commendation mass at St. Peter’s Catholic Parish, Ukehe, at 10:00 am, followed by a lying-in-state at his father’s compound. Mourners, including notable colleagues from the film industry, paid their respects before the body was moved to a private venue for internment at 1:30 pm.
The grief was palpable, especially as Junior Pope’s wife, Jennifer Awele, was seen weeping uncontrollably during the final funeral procession. The actor’s sudden death has left a void in the hearts of many. He tragically passed away on April 10, along with four others, when their boat capsized in the Anam River, Anambra State, returning from a movie shoot.
Veteran actress Rita Edochie, among the mourners, expressed her deep sorrow. “My heart shattered when I heard the news of Junior Pope’s death,” she said, capturing the collective heartbreak felt by all who knew him. The ceremony underscored the significant impact Junior Pope had on both his community and the entertainment industry.
