In a groundbreaking move aimed at easing the fuel burden on Nigerians, the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has issued a directive compelling all filling stations across the nation to introduce Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) into their fuel options.

The announcement, made by Engr Farouk Ahmed, CEO of NMDPRA, signals a significant shift towards a more cost-effective and environmentally friendly fuel alternative. With CNG priced as low as N200 per standard cubic foot, motorists can now enjoy substantial savings at the pump.

Ahmed emphasized that the move is part of a broader initiative by the federal government to diversify energy sources and reduce reliance on traditional petrol. He highlighted plans to integrate CNG facilities seamlessly into existing filling stations, ensuring widespread accessibility for consumers.

This development comes as a beacon of hope amid escalating fuel scarcity, with reports of exorbitant prices reaching as high as N2,000 per litre on the black market. With the introduction of CNG, Nigerians can look forward to more affordable and sustainable refueling options, paving the way for a brighter and greener future on the road.
