Tinubu directs all MDAs to purchase CNG-powered vehicles

In a monumental stride towards a greener future, President Bola Tinubu has issued a game-changing mandate that’s set to revolutionize Nigeria’s energy landscape. Effective immediately, all government vehicle, generator, and tricycle acquisitions must embrace eco-friendly technologies: compressed natural gas (CNG), solar power, or electric energy sources.

With a resolute vision to propel Nigeria towards sustainability, President Tinubu declared, “We refuse to tread the same old path. The era of inertia is over. It’s time to lead by example and drive our nation towards a prosperous, cleaner tomorrow.”

This landmark directive, hailed as a beacon of environmental stewardship, underscores Nigeria’s commitment to curbing emissions and bolstering energy efficiency. Embracing CNG-enabled vehicles not only slashes emissions but also promises a more cost-effective solution for Nigerian consumers.

President Tinubu’s unwavering resolve was echoed in his address to the Federal Executive Council (FEC), where he unequivocally decreed the rejection of any proposals for traditional petrol-dependent vehicles. Instead, he challenged council members to spearhead a paradigm shift towards value-driven CNG-compliant procurements.

The reverberations of this mandate are already palpable, as agencies like the Nigeria Customs Service and the Shipper’s Council scramble to align with the new directive, pivoting towards CNG-powered fleets. Even the Federal Capital Territory’s quest for petrol generators was met with the stipulation that they must harness CNG or solar energy.

But the transformation doesn’t stop at acquisitions. The Tinubu administration’s visionary Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGi) is poised to roll out a fleet of 800 CNG buses, 4,000 tricycles, and 100 electric buses in the coming weeks, marking a historic leap towards sustainable transportation.

In championing this energy revolution, Nigeria’s government anticipates a surge in renewable energy investments, catalyzing growth in solar panels and lithium batteries. Not only is this policy a win for the environment, but it’s also projected to slash costs by a staggering 60%, offering relief to the masses and driving inflation down.

As Nigeria boldly marches towards a future powered by clean, renewable energy, President Tinubu’s directive stands as a beacon of hope, illuminating the path towards a greener, more prosperous nation.
