Fuel scarcity will soon be over, Senate leader assures Nigerians
Amidst the backdrop of fuel shortages gripping Nigeria, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele offers hope for a swift resolution. Speaking from the Oil Technology Conference (OTC) in Houston, Texas, Bamidele assures the nation that relief is on the horizon.
In an exclusive interview with newsmen, Bamidele unveils ambitious plans to tackle the root causes of the crisis. “We’re laser-focused on eradicating fuel scarcity and those pesky queues at filling stations,” he declares.
Central to their strategy? Empowering the private sector to spearhead refinery construction. “More players mean more solutions,” Bamidele asserts. With plans to license new operators and revitalize existing refineries, the Senate aims to bolster domestic oil production and meet OPEC quotas.
But the vision doesn’t stop there. Sen. Ifeanyi Ubah, Chairman of the Senate Committee of Downstream, emphasizes the urgent need for action. “It’s been 15 years since the last refinery maintenance,” he laments, highlighting the toll of neglect on vital infrastructure.
To break free from reliance on imports, Ubah proposes a bold solution: a network of modular refineries nestled within riverine communities. It’s a blueprint for self-sufficiency, echoing the Senate’s commitment to a resilient energy future for Nigeria.
