Lagos Demolishes Ajah Market Shops, Two Traders Arrested

The Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps apprehended two traders during the demolition of shops erected along Akiogun Road, Oniru in the Eti-Osa Local Government Area. This information was relayed through an official post on the Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab’s social media account on Wednesday.

In a captured video, as the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps personnel commenced the demolition of the shops, some vendors were seen trying to salvage their merchandise. The post further mentioned that during a routine patrol in the Lekki-Ajah area, officials of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps demolished several kiosks along Chevron Drive.

Tokunbo Wahab highlighted that despite the traders being dispersed last week, they returned to the same location, leading to the arrest of two individuals. He stated, “While conducting monitoring and enforcement duties in the Lekki – Ajah axis this morning, the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps observed the reassembly of street traders who were previously displaced last week along Chevron Drive. The area has been cleared once again, and two individuals have been apprehended.”

Similarly, the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office took action by sealing the Carillion Construction office building on Victoria Island for unlawfully discharging sewage into the public drainage system through a pumping machine. “The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office, on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, sealed off the office building of Carillion Construction at Plot 10b, T.F Kuboye Street, Oniru Extension, Victoria Island, following the discovery of illegal sewage discharge into the public drainage via a pumping machine.”

Furthermore, operatives from the Special Offenses Taskforce, alongside other agencies, dismantled illegal structures on the drainage setback of Somide Odujinrin in response to a petition from the Omole Phase Two Community Development Association.
