Customers lament over increase in monthly subscription for DSTV, GOtv

The recent surge in monthly subscription rates for DSTV and GOtv by satellite television giant Multichoice has sparked a nationwide uproar among subscribers in Nigeria. With prices skyrocketing across various packages, subscribers are voicing their frustration over the seemingly insensitive move, especially amidst the prevailing economic challenges.

According to reports from the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), social media platforms are ablaze with condemnation and discontent, with many questioning the justification behind such steep hikes. Subscribers like Mr. Ebuka Victor and Mr. Benjamin Chukwucheben are calling on the Federal Government to intervene and break the monopoly enjoyed by Multichoice, labeling the price hikes as detrimental to Nigerians.

The situation has escalated to the point where regulatory bodies such as the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the Consumer Protection Council (CPC) are under pressure to investigate the rationale behind Multichoice’s actions. Many, like Mr. Frank Akpata, are suggesting alternative entertainment options such as smart TVs and streaming platforms, emphasizing the need for independence from traditional satellite services.

Amidst the outcry, individuals like Ms. Tomi Ifeayinchukwu and Ms. Mariam Ajala are already shifting towards streaming platforms for their entertainment needs, highlighting a potential exodus from traditional satellite TV services if the price hikes persist.
