Zenith Bank Names Adaora Umeoji as First Female CEO
In a significant development for Nigeria’s banking sector, Zenith Bank Plc has named Dr. Adaora Umeoji as its new Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. This milestone announcement, made public on Tuesday in a statement by company secretary Michael Otu, marks a pivotal moment in the institution’s history.
Scheduled to assume her new role on June 1, 2024, Dr. Umeoji’s appointment follows the conclusion of the tenure of the current GMD, Dr. Ebenezer Onyeagwu, on May 31, 2024. With nearly three decades of banking experience, including an impressive 26-year tenure with Zenith Bank, Dr. Umeoji brings a wealth of expertise to her new position.

Before her elevation, Dr. Umeoji served as the Deputy Managing Director of Zenith Bank since October 28, 2016, demonstrating her strong leadership capabilities and strategic vision. A distinguished alumna of Harvard Business School and Columbia Business School, Dr. Umeoji’s educational background further reinforces her qualifications for the role.
