NAFDAC vs. MAN: Disagreement Over Sachet Alcohol Ban

In a heated exchange, the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) refutes claims made by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) regarding the recent prohibition of sachet alcoholic drinks.

MAN’s Director-General, Segun Ajayi-Kadir, asserts that the decision was not collectively agreed upon, highlighting the dissent from the Distillers and Blenders Association of Nigeria, a subgroup under MAN.

Ajayi-Kadir contends that the ban overlooks the substantial impact on manufacturers, workers, and the economy, suggesting that tighter regulations rather than outright prohibition would be more effective in promoting responsible consumption.

As tensions escalate, the Trade Union Congress joins the fray, staging protests against the ban on Obafemi Awolowo Way in Ikeja, Lagos State. Demonstrators, including affected businesses, brandish placards decrying the policy, which they claim has left them jobless.
