In a bold display of unity and determination, nurses across Lagos State have rallied against what they perceive as a threat to their professional freedom. The vibrant protest, spearheaded by the Naija Nurses Forum, echoed through the streets of Lagos, as nurses voiced their discontent over new certification guidelines imposed by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).

Demanding fair treatment and respect, the nurses expressed outrage at the recent directive mandating stringent verification processes for their certificates. Clad in their uniforms and wielding placards adorned with powerful messages, they marched from Harvey Road to UNILAG Road, making their voices heard loud and clear.

With slogans like “We no gree for NMCN free Nigeria Nurses” and “Nurses no be slaves,” they sent a resounding message of defiance against what they deem as unjust policies. At the forefront of the movement, Thomas Abiodun, the coordinator of the forum, emphasized that these guidelines not only hinder career advancement but also violate their fundamental rights.

In an impassioned plea to the Federal Government, Abiodun urged for swift action, demanding the reversal of the controversial directives within 48 hours. She denounced the guidelines as a blatant attempt to stifle nurses’ aspirations and labeled them as both unjust and oppressive.

As the protest gained momentum, it underscored the unwavering resolve of nurses to safeguard their dignity and autonomy within the healthcare profession. Their unified stance serves as a poignant reminder that nurses are not just caregivers but also fierce advocates for their rights and the integrity of their profession.
