In a groundbreaking move, the Joint Admission and Matriculations Board (JAMB) has just announced a game-changing initiative for the upcoming 2024/2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). The JAMB Registrar, Ishaq Oloyede, revealed today that individuals with disabilities can now register for the exam at absolutely no cost.

Speaking passionately about the commitment to inclusivity, Oloyede declared, “To support the PLWD, JAMB will issue free application documents to all categories of Persons Living with Disabilities in the advertisement for the 2024 UTME/DE.”

But that’s not all – JAMB is taking it a step further. For blind candidates, audio books will be provided, marking a digital evolution in exam accessibility. Oloyede stated, “We are introducing audio books in popular formats such as MP3, WMV, and WMA, compatible with all devices that can stream audio records. This move stems from the first National Conference on Equal Opportunity of Access to Higher Education in Nigeria.”

It’s not just about blindness; JAMB’s inclusive initiative extends to various disability groups, including those with Down syndrome, Autism, Dyslexia disorder, and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Oloyede emphasized, “The following categories of candidates will now be listed under the disability group: Down syndrome, Autism, Dyslexia disorder, and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).”

This marks a significant stride towards creating an equitable educational environment. As registration kicks off today, JAMB is not only opening doors but tearing down barriers for a diverse range of candidates.
