Nigerians Protest as MTN, Glo, Airtel, and Others Prepare to Raise Call and Data Rates by 15%.

The telecom industry in Nigeria is fervently pushing for a substantial increase of 10 to 15% in both data and call tariffs. Sources within the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy have disclosed that subscribers could soon face elevated costs pending approval of the telecom giants’ proposal.
Despite continuous appeals from these operators since November of the previous year, the government has yet to make a final decision. They’re tying any tariff revisions to the full activation of the 2024 budget. However, ongoing discussions are aimed at ensuring that the potential increase doesn’t disproportionately affect financially vulnerable Nigerians, seeking ways to cushion the impact. Subscribers are expressing growing concerns about the potential financial strain these higher tariffs might impose.
