The tickets for the Hong Kong friendly match for Messi have been sold out.
Organizers reported that tickets for the Hong Kong friendly featuring Lionel Messi were sold out within an hour on Friday, with nearly two million online users queuing up. The Argentine star, along with his Inter Miami team, is set to clash against a Hong Kong XI at the 40,000-seat Hong Kong Stadium on February 4.
Football enthusiasts in the bustling financial center, with a population of 7.5 million, encountered extensive queues on the ticketing app on Friday morning. Ticket prices ranged from HK$880 to HK$4,880 ($110 to $625), prompting overwhelming demand.
Michel Lamuniere, chairman and CEO of Tatler Asia, expressed immense excitement about the overwhelming fan response. However, some social media users shared screenshots of the app displaying error messages due to the high volume of traffic.
Messi’s last appearance in Hong Kong was in 2014 for a friendly match. Miami’s co-owner, David Beckham, who had played in Hong Kong back in 2003 after joining Real Madrid, previously expressed the MLS club’s eagerness to participate in the “beautiful city with a great sports scene.”
Alongside Messi, Miami’s lineup in Hong Kong will feature Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets, as confirmed by the organizers. The Hong Kong XI team will comprise players from the top division of the Chinese territory.
